[seek-taxon] May meeting

Hi Bob et al,

I think it would be a good idea to spend more time on the taxon group while
we're together if people can manage that. I'd be happy to spend Tues pm, Wed
and Thur all day on taxonomy issues. Presumably a room in which to meet
won't be a problem? I plan to sit in on the knowledge representation and
semantic mediation groups for info and general interest so I will be in San
Diego for the duration of the meeting.

I also agree that it would be good to plan in advance what we're going to do
and if possible try to do something in advance to bring to the table.

Jim, as leader of the Taxon group do you want to suggest an agenda or goals
for the meeting or would you rather someone else did it?

We could base it on the goals from the Washington meeting with some update
from the New Mexico meeting. I know I keep asking but... it would be very
nice to see something that came out of the New Mexico meeting or should we
assume there is nothing to discuss from there?
Dave maybe you could give us an update if Jim is too busy?

ok - I'll wait to hear other's views.....

Jessie

Subject: [seek-taxon] May meeting

Hello all,

I wonder if we might start a bit of planning regards the seek-taxon
group.

The SEEK developers meeting is scheduled for May 10-16. A look at the
calendar (http://seek.ecoinformatics.org/meetings/dev-20030510/index.html)
shows that the taxon group is scheduled to meet only May 15. Based on our
last two meeting attempts (Nov 14, Jan 30), I am of the opinion that if we
meet for only a single day we will get rather little done and again go
away frustrated with little direction for our future activities.

Would some of you be interested in an extended meeting fo the taxonomy
group, perhaps running the 3 to 3.5 days starting on Tuesday (May 13)? I
am currently planning to arrive at the meeting in late morning on Tuesday
(May 13) and to depart at noon on Friday (May 16). I can arrive earlier
and stay longer if there is a reason. Please let me know your interest
and availability for a longer meeting.

I think we should also try to scope the meeting in advance. Your thoughts
on how to do this would be most appreciated.

Best,
Bob
