[ecoinfo] Citation norms for datasets

Starting about 8 or 9 years ago, I've had a section on my CV called:

Software resources and datasets developed

Nobody has ever said a word to me about it, positively or negatively (though
admittedly, I'm not in a traditional academic job). It will become the norm
as more people do it. Rewarding people for this effort may take a bit
longer, but if the traditional activities are sound AND someone demonstrates
open contribution of data and tools back to the larger science community I
would think that should be a plus.

Listing some as synergistic activities on an NSF bio sketch also
demonstrates an ability to carry out a data management plan.
