POSITION
SUMMARY: 	The person filling this position will coordinate and lead the 
support of application development, installation, maintenance, and 
modification of software for the U.S. LTER Network/NBII Metadata 
Standards Initiative. This person will provide guidance and direction 
in establishing the functions required for the successful development 
and implementation of software-base tools required by LTER/NBII sites 
and other relevant entities to achieve interoperable data systems by 
adhering to standard software development processes. In addition, this 
person will coordinate the delivery of software and documentation to 
LTER/NBII sites, and provide appropriate on-site training to LTER/NBII 
personnel through the development of specialized workshops and 
presentations. The successful candidate will be based at the University 
of New Mexico, with a significant amount of time (3-4 months) traveling 
to sites around the continental U.S., Alaska, and Puerto Rico and in 
Reston, VA at the NBII headquarters.
MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS: 	Bachelor's degree; at least 3 years of experience that 
is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

PREFERRED
QUALIFICATIONS: 	

     * Experience in software development in the following programming 
languages/applications:
           o Java 2 (JSP, Servlets, Applets, and J2EE)
           o Others (PERL, C, C++, and Shell Scripting)
           o SQL database management (e.g., postgres, mySQL, Oracle, 
SQL Server)
           o Experience with the Extensible Markup, Language (XML), 
including Schema, DTD, DOM, SAX, XSLT, XPath, and XQuery
           o Experience in training and supporting others in the 
installation and use of technical software applications
           o Experience organizing workshops and training exercises in 
the installation and use of technical applications
     * Demonstrated ability to:
           o Develop and carry out an implementation plan for technical 
software applications at distributed locations.
           o Effectively communicate both orally and written
     * Demonstrated ability to create, and modify end-user applications 
in of the aforementioned programming languages
