[seek] summary of status reports for June 28, 2004

Hi,

Here's this week's summary of status reports.  I have one request for 
future submissions: please be more explicit about the *subject* of your 
work so that others not familiar with your work can put the statement in 
context.  I frequently see phrases like "Finished work on the search 
interface", where its not at all clear what the search interface is 
searching.  Thanks.

*  KR/SMS Group
    o Discussing design of Growl ontology editor and browser -- hard UI
      issues in terms of exposing ontology information to scientists
    o Continued work on API for accessing Sparrow in Java
    o Bowers presented ant parasitism paper at SSDBM

* Kepler group
   o Prototype of data query in Kepler in early design phase
   o Continued work on synhronizing with PTII 4.0
   o Continued work on GARP actors, in particular a sunsampling actor
     using R
   o Berkley presented Kepler paper at SSDBM

* EcoGrid group
   o Rod Spears is attending Globus/Grid conference this week
     representing SEEK
   o Continuing work on data query implementation
   o Uploaded Stockwell's data to SRB for access via EcoGrid

* Taxon group
   o Integrating taxon authentication needs with web authentication via
     LDAP
   o Continued work on taxon name server implementation and taxonomic
     exchange standard

* EOT group
   o Deployed new web site at http://seek.ecoinformatics.org
     o All SEEK personnel can edit any part of the site

*  Personnel
    o Working on job description for Usability Engineer position
