[seek-taxon] FW: Test LSID resolver for TaxonConcepts

Hi Folks

Just in case you didn't get this email via another route.

They have taken the catalogue of life (CoL) data and converted it to TCS
format and represented it in TCS (as RDF).

If you use IBM's launchpad you get a good browser for navigating
concepts using LSIDs. I'm not a CoL expert but I guess I might interpret
some of the data differently, for example I would never say that a
concept in one classification is a child (or parent) of a concept in
another classification. As this is the CoL data we also are not having
to deal yet with third party assertions on relationships between
concepts - so if this representation were to be used for these too we
wouldn't be able to tell what relationships were part of the definition
and what were by others.

So it would be good if we could compare this to what we're doing for
SEEK and discuss on the next tel call or at the next meeting....

Jessie

Subject: Test LSID resolver for TaxonConcepts

The GBIF Secretariat now has a test LSID resolver running to access
TaxonConcepts based on the data from the Catalogue of Life 2005 Annual
Checklist. See
http://wiki.gbif.org/guidwiki/wikka.php?wakka=LSIDResolveForTaxonConcept
sCoL for more information. This is based on a simple mapping of the
data into TCS and then representing the information as rather simple RDF
metadata.

Thanks,

Donald
