Rich and Shawn

I am trying deal with the issue of representing all the possible words an
object can be called ( I hope I used the right sentence). Let me give you an
example,
Projections in GIS are also called as "Horizontal Coordinate
Systems", "Spatial References", "Projection Systems".

I think its imperative for our tools to recognize all these terms and be able
to recognize what they mean. I was wondering what is best way to represent
this kind of knowledge. I went through many examples but haven't found any
project implementing this issue.

Can you please give me some lead in this direction?

regards,
Manu
