[seek-dev] coming up to speed on Ptolemy

Hi everybody,

I work at ASU and will be working on model integration. I want to join your
party. :)

I have been reviewing the Ptolemy system to understand its architecture and
characteristics and limitations.

Has anyone put together a document to describe the tradeoffs and limitations
of using this system yet? That would be very helpful to me. For example,
it appears to have many types of computational models but it seems to me the
process network is the most useful for distributed software component
integration in the way we're (ASU) conceptualizing it. Has anyone done an
analysis that I can get a copy of?

Are there particular parts of the system you are focused on using?

I am also interested in looking at the language for web services BPEL4WS.
Has that been considered as a possible alternative to Ptolemy?

I will post my thoughts as I finish looking at both of these options
(Ptolemy and BPEL4WS). Maybe we can have some good discussions about
tradeoffs.

Thanks,
