Attached is a detailed description of my morpho problem including the
sample data I am trying to upload.

Ed,
Sorry to hear that you are having problems with Morpho. I saw Matt
Jones' response, and thought I might add a few more comments/questions
to help us determine the problem.

First, it seems that Morpho starts up OK and you are trying to
create a new package with some existing set of data. (i.e. you are
working with a screen that has the title "Text Import Wizard"). And you
have the problem that 'nothing happens' when you click the 'Finish'
button on that screen?

When you click the Finish button in the Text Import Wizard, the
table display should disappear and a window with the title 'Data Package
Wizard' should appear. Do you see this window? (It also has a Finish
button; in addition, it also has a check box asking if you want to send
the package to the network.) If you see this window, then try saving
the package but NOT sending the package to the network and see if things
work locally. (Sending a big (>10MB) datafile over the network can take
more than 10 minutes).

Let me know which 'Finish' button you are having the 'nothing
happens' problem and we can then procede.

I tried another machine: same problem, nothing happens when I push the
finish button after defining the table columns.

Both Machines have Win2000. The 1st computer has 1GB of raw, and the 2nd
computer has 392 MB of ram. The 1st computer is loaded in every aspect.

I tried to modify the reduce the RAM requirements. I tried the default
512 and changed it to 128. Both failed to work.

I tried both versions of MORPHO 1.3 for windows with & without Java.
For the installation with Java, I used my version of java and the
version that came with MORPHO. Both failed to work.

I'll be out of town until Wed. So, if you respond, I'll get back to you
on Thursday. Thanks for any help you can provide.

When I make my profile, what organization should I select? LTER??

Yes, LTER. In Morpho, the entire LTER-wide community (including SBC
LTER folks) can authenticate against the LTER Network Office personnel
database. If you don't have a user name or password, Wei-Yee Luan can
get the ball rolling on that. Check at:

http://intranet.lternet.edu/directory/

If you've forgotten your password, follow the instructions at:

http://intranet.lternet.edu/contact/

I did what you said. I can login etc. I tried to import data, and when

I
get the finish part I press the finish button, but nothing seems to
happen. Any suggestions.

The only time that I've seen this happen is with Bryn - it seemed to be
associated with having too little memory available for what the java
process is requesting. I'm not sure though, may just seem to be
correlated, but not the cause. We edited the morpho.bat file to reduce
the memory request from java.

It's important to know what OS you're on, how much memory you have,
etc. to troubleshoot something like this over email. For instance, if
you're on Windows 98, and have 128 megs of RAM, then you'd have the
same setup as Bryn, which may indicate that it's a Win98 thing, or
perhaps a memory issue.

What happens when you try it on another machine? or a more robust
machine? Same result?

I'm cc'ing the morpho-dev at ecoinformatics.org email address since the
folks on this list are those that are developing the software, and
would be able to field questions just as well or better than I can. If
you'd like to join this list, go to:

http://www.ecoinformatics.org/mailman/listinfo and go to the morpho-dev
subscribe page. It's pretty self explanatory.

If you're finding the same issues on another machine as well, then
we'll need to dive a little deeper. But for now, give that a try.

Also, just for reference, there is a searchable help system under the
Help menu if you have questions about creating data packages.

Best,
Chris
