Metacat is built in such a way to automatically be able to store and search
XML documents without having to build a relational database structure for
each schema. Instead, it is a persistent DOM model that is used to
represent the documents, and then path expressions are used to search the
XML trees. As such, Kepler has no need to modify Metacta's database -- it
can just submit XML structures for storage and Metacat handles the rest.
