Hi Eamon, Inigo and all!

Sorry that I have dropped out of the mail traffic concerning EML <->
ISO19115!

Within the ENVeurope project (http://www.enveurope.eu/ ) the mapping between
those schemata and services for metacat and for INSPIRE are an important
issue, so I have the following questions:

(1) Does GBIF still use the XSLT for translation?

Yes – we use the transform to serve fairly basic ISO19139 metadata to the
EuroGEOSS metadata catalogue; bear in mind that the XSLT is not a complete
mapping from the one specification to the other – just a subset, and we are
still reviewing/modifying the file.

a. What is the latest version of this XSLT ?

See attached which was validated against ISO19139 schemas.

b. Which software runs best for the processing of the XSLT ?

We use XALAN on our Java platform but you should have no problems with other
set-ups.

c. Will it be used to fulfill INSPIRE implementation rules?

Not specifically – you may need to go through
the rules and tweak the XSLT accordingly. For example, Implementing Rule
SC17 states “For datasets and series at least one keyword of GEMET
thesaurus shall be
documented using
MD_Metadata.identificationInfo[1].MD_DataIdentification.descriptiveKeywords.
”
We will probably need to revisit the XSLT in the light of the INSPIRE
implementing rules.

Can the FGDC interface of Morpho make use of this XSLT?

Not familiar enough with Morpho to answer that.

(2) Are there other practical usages of the mapping between EML and
ISO19115

Did you mean issues? – none come to mind.

Thank you

regards
