The Canopy Database Project, based at The Evergreen State College,
Olympia, WA, will likely be hiring a software developer within the next
few months. The project seeks a talented, experienced, and dedicated
person to join our interdisciplinary team - conducting research and
development to help scientists who work in the forest canopy to manage,
visualize and analyze field data. Data integration and synthesis are
concomitant project goals.

A successful candidate for this position will have 2-3 years experience
designing and implementing database applications in a team environment
using the following technologies: object-oriented analysis and design,
Java, and databases. Expertise in developing web-based applications, MS
SQL Server, MS Access, Excel, .NET or Python is a plus. Experience
working with scientists in a research environment, particularly ecology
is also desirable, and a strong desire to work with ecologists to
improve their data management and access to others' data is required.

A successful candidate will have demonstrable and solid written and oral
communication skills, and experience or potential for directing a
software development team, eliciting specifications from users, and
presenting software design for review. The ability to communicate
across disciplines (computer science and ecology) is a must. A B.A. or
B.S. degree, or equivalent, is a requirement.

This position carries full benefits, including retirement, health
insurance, sick leave, eleven paid holidays per year, one month (21
days) of paid annual vacation, and educational benefits such as tuition
waivers. Some teaching opportunities for qualified individuals might be
available.
