Please join us for an NCEAS Roundtable on Wednesday, February 12th at 
12:15 pm.

Dr. Oran Young
Professor Emeritus
Bren School of Environmental Science and Management

will present a seminar on:

"Arctic Options: Holistic Integration for Arctic Coastal-Marine 
Sustainability"

*Arctic Options**is group of experts funded by the US National Science 
Foundation (NSF) to help identify development and governance options for 
the region. Their mission is to highlight choices that help balance 
economic, social and environmental interests across the Arctic's coastal 
marine systems. Dr. Young is the Project Coordinator for the Arctic 
Options initiative and he will be speaking to us about the social, 
political and governance issues in the Arctic.

Bio: Dr. Young specializes in the fields of Institutional and 
International Governance and Environmental Institutions. His research 
focuses on theories of environmental governance with applications to 
issues relating to climate change, marine systems, and the polar 
regions. Young served for six years as founding chair of the Committee 
on the Human Dimensions of Global Change of the US National Academy of 
Sciences. An expert on Arctic issues, Young chaired the Steering 
Committee of the Arctic Governance Project and is the science advisor to 
the North Pacific Arctic Conferences. Past service in this realm 
includes co-chair of the Working Group on Arctic International 
Relations, vice-president of the International Arctic Science Committee, 
and chair of the Board of Governors of the University of the Arctic.
