How healthy are our oceans?
Dr. Ben Halpern
Center for Marine Assessment and Planning
Today, December 13, 5:30-6:30 PM
Basement auditorium, 735 State Street, Santa Barbara
This event is free and all are welcome.

Join us this time for a trip to the ocean. People everywhere depend upon healthy oceans in countless ways. Just think of the many millions who count on ocean fisheries for their livelihoods or the untold lives saved by intact coral reefs during the 2004 Asian tsunami. The healthier oceans are, the more benefits people receive from them. But how healthy are our oceans? Ecologist Dr. Ben Halpern has the answer. Along with an international team of scientists, he has developed a new way to measure the health of the ocean: the Ocean Health Index. The Ocean Health Index allows us to do something new: to measure how oceans are doing across a range of ways that matter to people, for every country with a coastline. Join us on December 13th to hear Dr. Halpern talk about the Ocean Health Index and the future of our oceans.

This event is organized by the National Center for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis.
