from Dr. Katz:
The talk will survey two projects - both of which address human
use of
the Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary and its
neighborhood.
The first project uses climate reanalysis models and an aerial
monitoring program to evaluate changing wind patterns in the
southern
California bight over the last 60 years and how that can affect
access
to the islands for recreational and commercial fishing. The second
half of the talk will cover our work using ocean acoustics,
maritime
safety equipment and large scale economic data to evaluate the
impacts
of large vessel traffic through the So Cal bight and address the
impacts and effectiveness of management actions.
