Please join us for this week's Ecolunch seminar on Thursday, December 14th at 12:15 p.m. Our speaker will be Mick Kronman, Santa Barbara Harbor Operations Manager. The title of his talk is "Critical thinking in marine resource management". An abstract and short bio are provided below.

ABSTRACT
Fisheries science and fisheries management are demanding, complicated disciplines. Discerning fact from fiction and reality from perception, takes a commitment to objectivity and intellectually rigorous thought, plus an abiding respect for the mysteries of the sea. In short, sound marine resource management requires critical analysis that is open-minded, long on inquiry and short on simple answers.

Topics to be touched on will include:

	Humans' role in resource management
	Marine mammals
	Marine Protected Areas
	Abundance vs. Availability
Landings data as a measure of fishery health
	Bycatch
	Trawling
	Sustainability
