Hi Chad,

the ".kepler" directory I had removed.

I'm using Debian GNU/Linux here on my development machine and yes, Debian also
places links in /usr/bin . Nevertheless I rechecked the configuration and my
Java installation points to Sun Java 1.5.
$ java -version
java version "1.5.0_14"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_14-b03)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_14-b03, mixed mode, sharing)
I also discovered the problem on a colleges machine running an older "SuSe
Linux".

Which endpoint does Kepler try to connect to? Is it some internet service or
anything?
