Your suggestion about doing ^\ to dump the threads' information proved 
to be helpful.  It turns out that
when using the Job actors, there is no way to shut off the thread 
handling the SSH connection without
putting in an SSH Session actor and configuring it correctly.  It was 
that unterminated thread that prevented the
session from shutting down.
