I know this sounds like overkill but how about having a bibtex or XML
entry for each publication. Then we put those in a database and create 
an HTML from it (on the fly)...

I always wanted sth like that but didn't have time. But seeing one
more manually maintained page of that sort really hurts (not that I
would have time to work on the actual DB solution...)
