Hi Jim, 

The 2 Word files are almost the same, but
OWLRepresentationsDiagGeneralTCS.doc is 5 months newer, and closer to
the current TCS.  I'm not sure if that is the only difference.  I got
these out of CVS, so maybe Susan has something more generic.

I've also included a spreadsheet summarizing different approaches to
representing taxonomic objects.

Joanna's report about her exercise with using OWL for taxon data?  I
have a colleague working on a tiny project with bird data who said she
would very much appreciate a chance to look at it.  The recent TDWG
meeting was pushing in the direction of ontology approaches to Taxon and
I hear that the new NSF Evolutionary Synthesis Center at Duke is also
interested.  So whether or not they are practical and likely to be
useful or not, it feels like interest is building.
