Dear Colleagues and Collaborators on the TDWG project,

in preparation of the upcoming Edinburgh Meeting I would like to send you
the current version of the Napier Taxonomic Transfer Schema. We will present
this prototype (straw man schema) to you at the meeting but would be
grateful if you could find the time to familiarise yourself with the schema
in advance. This will hopefully make the discussion more fruitful. Could
those of you who are unable to attend please email their comments, so the
issues can be considered in the next version of the data model. Thank you
very much.

In addition the the attached raw xml, html documentation generated by
XML-spy is available at:
<http://146.176.162.1:10102/data-sets/Napier_html/>
http://146.176.162.1:10102/data-sets/Napier_html/ . An overview diagram
(big) can be found here:
<http://146.176.162.1:10102/data-sets/Napier_html/overview.png>
http://146.176.162.1:10102/data-sets/Napier_html/overview.png. The schema
itself contains documentation of the various elements embedded in <xs:doc>
tags, but I have also included a short document with a glossary of terms
(glossary.doc) and a list of schema design conventions (Conventions.doc) to
aid in the interpretation of the schema.

In addition there are 3 converted/interpreted data sets available that
conform to the schema at <http://146.176.162.1:10102/data-sets>
http://146.176.162.1:10102/data-sets. They are the plants from ITIS USA, the
Database of Mosses (from Walter Berendsohn's team in Berlin) and the
Taxonomer Database of Fishes. The file notes.txt describes the directory
structure.

For limitations of the conversion and other comments, please see the
notes.doc document in every directory.

I hope I will see you in Edinburgh soon
  Robert
