Unit Dictionary

Can somebody else answer Karen's question about the name vs. the id of
unit in the unit dictionary as I don't seem to remember the details of
the naming conventions:

-The unit dictionary 'unit type id' and 'name' seem always to be the 
same. Best practices doesn't seem to provide clarification about the 
distinction. Which one of these is used by eml? Can we co-op the 'name' 
to be more a short-name or nick-name for unit type id?
